acrylic on canvas 49 1/2″ x 39″ 1986
Living and working on a treefarm in Maryland, I was ever drawing, painting, wandering and contemplating the forest. Focusing on the negative space formed by the interlocking branches of the trees, the patterns of light in and between the trunks and observing the seemingly engineered spaces, I developed the pieces for what became the Nature as a Model for Building, series. In this painting I was also able to escape from the rectilinear picture plane.
